I grew up looking up to graffiti artist of the 80’s and 90’s. There was a point in my life where I wrote my name on everything. I found out about Basquiat when I was 11 or 12. I was amazed at his work because he was one of the first fine artist I learned about who had been a graffiti writer.

Then as I got older and really started looking at his work I realized that he used his talent to say something. He used paintings to tell a story about things black and brown kids could relate to. For me he was one of my heroes.
